About the course
A Faster Way to Bring Felted Animals to Life Do you love sculptural felt animals—but hesitate at the thought of building an entire figure with a needle, one tiny piece at a time? Marina Samarina offers a different approach. First, you create a strong, flexible “skin” using wet felting. Then you cut, assemble and fill the form before using the felting needle to sculpt the curves, folds and expressive details that give the animal its character. In this course, you’ll create a complete rhinoceros from start to finish. You’ll learn how to work from a photograph, establish believable proportions, attach the legs securely, shape the face and add eyes, ears, horns and other finishing details. You don’t need to reproduce complicated anatomy perfectly. Marina shows you how to recognise the few essential features that make an animal convincing—and how to correct the form as you work. Most importantly, this is more than a project for one rhinoceros. Once you understand the method, you can adapt it to lions, elephants, leopards and animals of your own invention. Join the course and bring your first felted character to life.
Meet Marina Samarina
Marina Samarina is a felt artist and inventive maker now living by the sea in Bulgaria. Before turning to felt, Marina worked for many years as a top manager. She brought the same curiosity, practical thinking and love of experimentation into her creative life — always looking for a simpler, smarter way to make an idea work. Today, Marina creates expressive felted clothing, footwear and sculptural animals. Her distinctive method combines wet felting with needle felting, allowing her to build strong forms while preserving the warmth, texture and personality of handmade felt.
