What you will learn
You will follow the complete process of creating a richly textured felted snood — from the first idea to the finished wearable piece. You will learn how to combine wool, silk fibres, yarns, and shimmering fabrics; how to build a layered surface full of texture and colour; how to prepare the template, lay out both sides, felt, shape, and finish the snood; and how to create soft volume with beautiful raised felted details.
Rich Texture & Shine
Explore a beautiful combination of wool, silk fibres, yarns, shimmering fabrics, and raised felted details to create a surface full of depth and movement.
Soft Sculptural Volume
Learn how to shape the snood into a soft, wearable form with beautiful volume, comfortable drape, and expressive felted structure.
Step-by-Step Felting Process
Follow Kamala through the complete process — from preparing the materials and template to layout, felting, shaping, and finishing.
Is This Course for You?
Yes — if you love textured felt, wearable accessories, silk, shimmer, colour, and soft sculptural forms. This course is ideal for feltmakers with some basic experience who want to create a beautiful project while exploring surface design and expressive felted texture.
Materials
Wool 19 micron
You will meed appr. 50 g of wool
Viscose and Silk Fibers
For this project, Kamala uses 30 g of viscose in total for the inner surface of the snood — usually 3 colours, about 10 g of each colour. For the decorative surface, prepare 3 to 5 colours of silk fibres. The exact amount of silk is not fixed, because it depends on your design: use more if you want a brighter, richer surface, and less if you prefer a calmer result.
Many leftovers and scraps
The exact amount of fabric is not fixed. You only need small pieces for decoration. These fabrics are used as accents, not as the main material.
Meet Kamala
Kamala Abdykadyrova is a clothing designer and felt artist from Kyrgyzstan — a country with a deep and living felt-making tradition. In Kyrgyz culture, felt has been part of daily life for centuries: people lived in felt yurts, used felt carpets, and created warm, useful, and beautiful objects from wool. Kamala brings this heritage into modern wearable design. Her work combines texture, colour, warmth, and sculptural form, always with deep respect for the natural beauty of wool. In this course, she guides you calmly and clearly through the process of creating a richly textured felted snood — from the first materials to the finished wearable piece.
