About the course
Felted Village grew out of Julia Struzh’s work with children who learn differently — in a school where creativity, patience and hands-on making are part of everyday life. The school even has its own sheep. Together with the children, Julia washes the wool, dyes it, explores its texture, and turns it into small felted decorations full of colour, warmth and imagination. This free mini-course is not about perfection. It is about the joy of working with real wool, discovering simple forms, and seeing how a small felted object can become a house, a village, a story — or the beginning of a much larger creative idea. Some visuals in this course are AI-assisted concept images, used as inspiration. The heart of the project, however, comes from real feltmaking: wool, water, colour, hands, and the quiet magic of making something together.
About Julia Struzh
Julia Struzh is a felt artist and teacher based in Cologne, known for her clear, thoughtful approach to wet felting. Her work combines structure, colour, texture and a deep respect for natural materials. Alongside her own textile practice, Julia works extensively with children who learn differently. In this school environment, making things by hand is more than a craft activity — it becomes a way to observe, connect, concentrate and experience the material world directly. The school has its own sheep, and the children are involved in the whole process: washing the wool, dyeing it, feeling its texture, and transforming it into small felted objects and decorations. These projects are simple, joyful and deeply rooted in real materials. Julia brings the same spirit to Felted Village: patience, imagination, colour, and the belief that even a small piece of wool can become a house, a story, or a little world of its own.
