A gentle step into seamless 3D felt

This course is ideal if you want to move beyond scarves and flat felt. The mini cape is a manageable project that teaches the logic of seamless felt clothing: working around a resist, creating virtual seams, stabilizing the neckline, controlling shrinkage and shaping a wearable form.

Rich surface design without chaos

This course is full of decorative possibilities: viscose, silk, silk gauze, lace, guipure, sequins, locks, fleece and textured fibres. But Alisa also teaches restraint — how to stop at the right moment and create a harmonious composition instead of simply adding more and more décor.

One reusable template

Alisa explains how to construct a custom pattern using only four measurements — and how to turn it into a plastic template you can use again and again. You may also use the provided template logic, because the model is very forgiving and almost one-size: the most important fit point is the neck opening.

One pattern. Three styles. Endless felt possibilities.

The mini cape is a seamless felt collar with an extension over the shoulders — warm, elegant, practical and surprisingly versatile. In this course, Alisa Bordo shows how to make three different mini capes using one basic template: a demi-seasonal model, a richly textured winter model, and a lighter artistic version. You will learn how to construct the pattern, prepare the template, lay out wool and lining, build decorative surfaces, felt the form and finish the piece beautifully.

You Will Work With

Fine merino wool tops Viscose fibres Silk gauze Silk scraps and silk laps Raw fleece Teeswater locks Alpaca or other fleece Lace and guipure Sequins and decorative fabrics Laminate underlay for the reusable template Bubble wrap, netting, soap, towels and basic felting tools Optional electric sander Optional hand carders, pet brushes or drum carder The handout gives material amounts for the three versions: the demi-seasonal model uses about 35 g of fine wool top and 120–140 g of viscose; the winter model uses silk gauze, about 35 g of fine wool, viscose, fleece and decoration; the lightweight model uses silk gauze, about 30 g of fine wool and decorative silk or viscose fibres. Who Is This Course For? This course is for feltmakers who know the basics of wet felting and want to take the next step into wearable form. It is especially helpful if you usually make scarves, shawls, stoles or flat pieces and feel curious about 3D felt, but do not yet want to start with a fitted vest, jacket or complex garment. The mini cape is forgiving, elegant and practical. It teaches essential 3D felt principles in a project that is small enough to manage — and beautiful enough to wear.
